THE INTERNATIONAL RESPONSE ON THE HUNGARIAN IT-MENTOR INITIATIVES
surman2.jpgTeleCottage has given account on Digital Opportunity International Workshops and Conference. Its most important outcome was to identify IT-mentor as a profession of high significance, which must be mainstreamed internationally. Almost all participants, foreign and domestic lecturers, and those speaking in the workshops pinpointed that it is not the toolkits, neither the softwares nor even the services but pending on acces to all of them it is the local, authentic and adept moderators and supporters, i.e. the IT-mentors that it all depends upon. The representatives of all three sectors – the public, the business and the civil – considered it an determinative chain to create IT-mentor profession and to set up an inter-sector cooperation in its delivery. An overall notion has evolved that the Hungarian practice should have an international distribution properly adopting it to the needs of the local communities and their environments. Mark Surman, Director of the Worldwide Telehouse Program, Telecentre.org (IDRC, Canada) has proclaimed his intention to support by the Program the worldwide dissemination of the new profession. Soon will be set a program proposal for the steps to be taken. In close connection with this EUTA, BGF and MATAL (Hungarian Distance Learning Foundation) together with Slovakian, Bulgarian, Spanish and Romanian partner organizations have rendered an application on the same issue in order to adapt IT-mentor basic training in Europe. Final decision on the application is anticipated in September. Please see further details on the event at : http://www.telefalu.hu (Translation: Kati Visy)
